>I am currently researching before I purchase a Framework. I have looked around and have narrowed it down to the Mere Mortals Framework (seems strongest for developing business objects) and Visual MaxFrame Professional (seems strongest for user interface objects). I am leaning a little more towards Mere Mortals (business objects are important), but it appears not to include a sophisticated report interface would allows users to specify selection criteria (also important).

Thomas, you got quite some reactions from people who advise you their favorite framework. You're not new to vfp. So, you've been confronted with fundamental aspects of vfp for quite some time. That's good.

For me, the situation was different. When I made the jump from fp2.6 to vfp, I started with a framework right away (visual maxframe professional) and later I had to use another framework (codebook). Both times there were colleagues who were experienced with the framework and could help me in the learning process. A year later I had to do things without a framework. I'm still working without a framework these days. What do you think... do you think I'm missing the frameworks badly? Well, the answer is: nop. I'm glad I can now do things without them. And it was only after getting rid of the frameworks that I got confronted with certain fundamental aspects of vfp and got the feeling of having real insight, of being a real vfp-developer.

I know most people think that using a framework is a good way of learning the fundamentals, but that's not my opinion. I think you're a lucky guy, because you have done without a framework for quite a while.

My advise.. choose the one you understand! Also, the basic concepts of the framework (often written down in the introduction of the manual) must give you a good feeling. It may not be the most sophisticated framework, but the key note is that you must stay in control.

BTW, isn't vfp itself also a framework?!
