With $40+ billion in the bank, MS could give software away for a good long time before it hurt them!
That they can have $40+ billions in the bank says that they may have been overcharging a tad on their software, wouldn't you think? At the very least they could afford to spend a little more on bug fixing without unduly hurting their bottom line.
