>This is my point. The bugs should be fixed and the fixes provided free-of-charge to the customers who've bought the current version regardless of commitments to upcoming versions that have NOT been purchased yet, are not in use, and no customer has committed to.

Tracy;

Everyone is entitled to have an opinion, and run a business the way they want. One thing I see is more companies moving to a “subscription service”. This allows you to have “updates” for one year from date of purchase, which can be renewed. “Updates” may include bug fixes as well as the latest greatest features complete with new bugs! Wow! You get to test and report bugs. You are a part of the companies SQA department.

So we buy the product to provide ourselves with the “new version” of a software product and through the subscription service we allow the company to fix bugs and finance its “next” or “latest” version. Sounds like a great way to make money. That way you do not have to provide a quality product. Just punch out the software and everyone will jump at the chance to enjoy it.

Such a lovely business model. I am sure the “bean counters” will envision new ways of marketing software.

Tom
