Here's my problem... so many people accept the situation, either outright or by saying (as you do) 'I don't like it but I understand' that there is really no impetus for MS to change anything!
I do not understand how MS can have $40+ billions in the bank and yet deliver software that continues to reflect (many many) same bugs from release to release to release. I can understand why they might wish to get away with it, but I can't understand why we let them.
I also can't understand why the shareholders aren't screaming to get a handsome dividend out of them!
