COM/DCOM and OLE Automation
Hi,
I have a customer data object that I need to run on another machine in another building (across a T1). This object returns one or more customers in XML format.
I need the customer object to actually run at the other building and only return the XML subset instead of reading the entire customer table over the T1 (from 50 desktops).
I'm thinking DCOM would be perfect for this! Unfortunately, I've never done a DCOM project and I'm not having much luck with this... The object (CustObj) works fine locally, and it's registered on the other machine... but I cannot instantiate it remotely !! I've tried (almost) everything.
Is there anything out there that will explain in extreme detail how to deploy and then *use* a DCOM object over a T1 where both ends are running Win2K???
I've posted this question before and read many of the links, articles etc that were mentioned (thanks everyone) but I'm still running into various brick walls. I think I've performed all the necessary steps but not necessarily in the right order! And I probably shot myself in the foot several times without realizing it! I'm hoping there's a document out there somewhere like this:
Step one: create your .dll
Step two: install it on the remote server
Step three: register it
Step four: Um... this is where I get stuck...
Step five: ...
Any help is MOST APPRECIATED!
