I had my son dig through the old boxes and we found the HP manual.
To set Portrait use:
?? chr(27)+chr(38)+chr(108)+chr(48) + chr(79)

To set Landscape use:
?? chr(27)+chr(38)+chr(108)+chr(49) + chr(79)

In both cases this MUST be the very first thing printed. You must use the double question mark so that you are not sending a line feed.
