The table is used in the controlsource of several objects, and I guess that something in the VFP environment goes wrong and closes the tables before the objects on the form are released, hence the error in the READ EVENTS clause.

I thought about dangling object references, but since I could not find one and then the form would not release at all (at least in VFP 6), I find this hard to believe.

In anyway, I've got two forms now exibiting this behaviour, and I've got no single clue how to solve this.
