Why don't you make it transparent for end user? You can add "Backup' and 'Restore' options to your application and zip/unzip the table behind the scene.

>hey, it wasn't my idea! :) the client made this request. there are multiple users and each user has their own records and works in multiple locations - two offices and some homes. there is no WAN that can be used and they want the users to be able to easily move their records around. so rather than copying 30 files to a zip drive, they would prefer they simply copied one "mdb like" file back and forth.
