No, only the view needs to be in a database and you can have a database just for the view.

Also, I would first try removing one or the other of the relation in the DE and/or the properties in the grid. Having both set up can be confusing to VFP, which does in use if they conflict? I think it is the grid properties that take precendence but I'm not sure.
