Hi Doug,

I not sure I understand your setup well enough to give you advise. If I understand it correctly the two machine are in the same domain behind a firewall. I suppose you tired telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Is the system you trying to access using ssld services. If so, you will need a telnet client that can handle ssl 1 and 2 security. SSL stand for secure socket layer. If this is the case, then telnet, rlogin, klogin, etc will not work.

When I had my web site with an ISP in Chicago, ILL running on a Linux Box,
Hostway, my ISP, upgraded and started using the ssld service. This envolves high encryption which requires special software. I search the web of a free or shareware version of a telnet client that handled SSL, but could not find it for free. I finally brought SecureCRT version 3.1 (32-bit) by VanDyke Technologies, Inc., http://www.vandyke.com. With it I was then able to telnet to the Linux Box hosted by Hostway without any problems, login and set up directories, change permissions, etc. I run the telnet client on my Window NT box and have no trouble accessing the linux box using telnet.

Find out if the Linux Box your trying to access has the ssld service running.
