I don't find a link yet, but the local television just announced that former Bolivian president, General Hugo Bánzer, just died (he had terminal cancer).
Short summary of relevant history:
Bánzer was a dictator several years ago, was forced to renounce (foreign pressure, if I understand correctly), then - in more recent times - was oficially elected, for his party "ADN" (side-note: ADN means "Acción Democrática Nacionalista", but is also the acronym, in Spanish, for DNA!).
A few months ago, he renounced as president, because of a worsening cancer. The then-vice-president, Jorge Quiroga, took over as president.
His last years were not exactly tranquil - apart from the disease, there were some extradition demands, for alleged human rights abuses during his dictatorship.
Hilmar.
