If you take a look in the Windows API section of the thread here, you will see an entry titled extractassociatedicon. It is actually quite good and I have always found it to work.

If you have any troubles getting it to work at all, let me know and I will try and step you through it.

I see you are from Oakville. Wouldn't be much of a trip at all. :) Definately let me know when you are going to be in the area and we'll try and meet up.
