Steve, Rod, I think the middle ground is that it's nice to have the new software, try some of the examples, do a prototype, etc., while it's in its beginning stages. That way you can put a dent into the learning curve while not being too (financially) involved in the early version of a new product, or learning too many bad programming habits.

As far as being "left behind" goes, it's just a matter of the "game time" vs "real time" ratio. It _is_ possible to "catch up" if you're willing/able to put in the time.
