I'm not that sure about that. Of course, I'll have to see how this functionality is implemented in detail. For example consider the following questions:

1. For insertions done via views, how can I determine the value of the key, before the actual insert is written to the table. This is especially important when inserting new parents and childs via local views. This is pretty easy with the custom autoincrement mechanism.

2. What does happen if you mannually insert a row with a custom key value higher than the previous highest value. Does the incrementing continue from the newest highest value or the previous one. What does happen when the highest value is deleted and the table is packed. Can you reset the incrementing key value ?

I'm sure there are several other detailed issues that could apply.
