Hilmar,
I was born in Heidelberg, Germany. Came to USA when I was 6. Spent some time in Canada, then came to to US to stay. I've been back to Europe/Germany several times on company trips. All my relatives are supposedly gone, so when I got my citizenship I Americanized my name.
I expect you've got a lot German folks down there, since a lot of people fled there during the war.

Here's one you can really appreciate:
Spoken by The Count, (a Muppet of a Transylvanian vampire, teeth, cape and all, with a deep Transylvanian accent)from Sesame Street, (a children's program) as he's serving dinner to another Muppet.
"It's KroopKee, our national fish. They taste terrible, but there are plenty of them."
