Hi Mike,
>Lots of good suggestions, Walter, but one comment.
>>Faster opening of tables, etc. IOW more performance.
>Perhaps performance woudl increase if you used the OleDB Providor over the network. Does your client know about this VFP7 enhancement?
You mean my business partner ? Probably not since, they drew conclusions from a list of features I did provide. I've not worked with the OLE provider yet, and can not comment on that one. However, we (my business partner and I) have a number of applications that have to be maintained, so switching to other data-access technologies is certainly not an obvious choice when the file-server opening of tables is a proven well working technique.
We'd probably look into MSDE or SQL-server vs ODBC solutions first when the performance of file-server I/O becomes a real bottleneck.
Do you have any experience in using the OLE provider, and how does performance compare with the native access of databases ?
Thanks,
Walter,
