I'm jumping in late on these threads (I'm only up to 5/6 right now) so if this point has been mentioned, I apologize...

I'm mostly on your side of the fence (roughly "wait and see" or "experiment and see") on this one.

People seem to forget that at least in the US, the economy in the near and intermediate futures doesn't include a booming economy. We (the US) are still consolidating from failed businesses, Dot .Com busts, etc.. Most companies are restoring 1 and 2 year old computers and not purchasing the latest and greatest -- patching old apps and not writing new ones. You may hear MSFT talk about XP and 10+ million licenses sold (all technically true) but the total on desktops are much, much less.

.NET is designed to be developed and to a lesser extent run on the latest and greatest computers and OSes. Those items aren't being bought in the same quantity as before and won't be for some time to come.

IOW, it's not even an issue whether it's immature or not (though I think it still is). As Clinton's election people said "It's the economy, stupid."

Everyone has plenty of time to learn .NET. There's no steamroller coming in the near future...
