>Hi guys I want to share with you a little problem that I´m having in my linux box. I hava a thinkpad T21 with 128 MB RAM and a 238 MB share partition in the disk. I hve installed on this the J2SDK 1.4 and all works fine with my developments. But, when I tryed to install the SOTO office 2002 package, well with the rpm fine but when I ran the ./setup my box hang completely. No ctrl-alt-backspace, no ctrl-f2,ctrl-f3 and nothing just stop and don´t work any more. This behavior repeat when I try to install Staroffice 5.2.

>So I don´t know what would cause this. For the characteristics I´m thinking that the problem will be found in the j2sdk and the amount of memory ram.

Check these user experiences:
http://www.cixel.com/elinux/t21.htmhttp://www.ece.ubc.ca/~mdadams/thinkpad/http://lhd.zdnet.com/db/dispproduct.php3?DISP?2600http://www.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~nday/Software/ibm_thinkpad_t21_install.htmlSome suggest an upgrade to the latest 2.4.x kernel, but it has been my experience that when a total lockout occurs (no keyboard, no mouse == power cycle) it is usually because of the x-server configuration. Also, configuring 3D or accelerated video into the kernel produces, in my experience, a more stable video than using modules. If you get the latest x-drivers for you video you should be ok.
"Xi Graphics is pleased to announce 3D accelerated support
for the IBM Thinkpad T21, which uses the S3 SavageIX
chipset. The Thinkpad T21 also supports DualView(in Single
Logical Screen mode). The Linux Graphics Driver can be downloaded
from
http://www.xig.com/Pages/3D-LGD-List.html.
Benchmarking was performed on the Thinkpad T21,
and, at 24-bit color depth, the results of the test for the
Accelerated-X server versus the corresponding XFree server
and Metrolink server are shown below.
Accelerated-X LGD: 26.6 Xmarks
XFree 4.0.2: No Support
Metrolink 4.3.5: No Support
Cordially,
Xi Graphics Technical Support"
Some wild guesses:
http://lists.insecure.org/linux-kernel/2001/Dec/0691.htmlOnce source recommended not running the gpm program while running the Xserver.
Good luck!
