'Expert' topics idea
Michel et al.,
After seeing some threads on general topics such as client-server issues, it occurred to me that it would be nice to have this kind of focussed discussion while, at the same time, separating the wheat from the chaff. Here's my idea, for which I thought the UT might be an ideal place, because Michel has the abilty to set up the programming to do it.
First, there would be announced a 'topic of the month' which would be hosted by someone with expertise in that topic, and 'expert sysop.'
Second, there would be created a two special sections for that topic: one for general discussion of the issues regarding that topic, and the second, readonly except to the 'expert sysop,' would be a compilation of the results of those discussions. 'What you really ought to know' about that particular topic.
Third, a topic would stay alive until a) it had been covered in the opinion of, primarily, the 'expert sysop.' or b) a month had transpired. At that point, the "read-only" thread would be moved to the library, and both threads would close to new entries.
A starter list of topics:
-- error handling routines
-- COM/DCOM
-- Custom Class organization
-- Activex: getting them working with VFP
-- Building a Framework: what you need
-- Data Design: concepts & tools
So, just a thought.
