Actually, we're sort of forced into it :)

There are two companies, company A and company B, with two separate customer databases at two separate locations. These companies market memberships to their own home-shopping clubs.

A third company, company C, fulfills catalog orders for both companies A and B.

Company C is in the same building as company A so we can get to their customer data over the internal network, which uses a 1GB fiber backbone. This access is very fast.

Company C accesses company B’s customer data over a T1, which is much slower… to the point that performance is unacceptable…

Enter DCOM… we plan to create a Customer class as a DLL, which will run on Company B’s server and return their customer data via XML. This will greatly reduce T1 traffic, as the processing will occur on the remote server. By the way, we will use this same Customer class to access Company A’s customer data to keep with the same interface for the Order Processing System.

This is our first experience with DCOM, in fact we have very limited experience with COM at all… We’ve been researching this technology for weeks and I’m afraid the only thing we’ve achieved thus far is brain overload! That’s why we bought the book. It appears to be a step-by-step guide to implementing COM+…

Thanks

P.S. don't be suprised if I take you up on your offer :)

>>Hi,

>>We just purchased "Understanding & Programming COM+" by Robert J. Oberg. Has anyone read this book? It seems like just the ticket for us, starting off *very* slow :)
