Mike, just wanted you to know that the problem is resolved. I split the stored procedure into two and it runs fine. I tried this after I remembered a problem with SQL 6.5 where we ran into a size limitation. SQL Help indicates that the maximum size of a stored procedure is 128MB but gives no indication of how to check this.
