Hi George -

I think you are definitely on to something here in terms of reading the tea-leaves. In talking with Ken Levy at Whilfest last fall I was raising the point that marketing VFP is a two front war. We talk a lot about marketing VFP to the business/developer community but I think the more important marketing effort is marketing VFP to Microsoft. Microsoft will see VFPs value by how well it generates sales of SQL licenses. By making VFP an obvious and seamless choice for middle tier in SQL Server apps MS will be more interested in promoting its use. I'd be *very* surprised if future versions of VFP didn't move in that direction in a major way - especially in how they are "marketed" to Microsoft.

>Anything that makes it easier to work with SQL Server will help (including just auto-increment columns). It becomes a more natural choice for working with data, and can be marketed that way.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
