We have someone who is trying that since yesterday. He also works on several products for sending an email with MAPI or SMTP. What I can say is if you can avoid using an additional layer, as MAPI/outlook does, you'll be better to call directly the SMTP server by using a SMTP control in your application.

Here, since it is Microsoft all the way, we try to do it with MAPI. Otherwise, it would have been with the use of a SMTP control to bypass the MAPI layer.
