Fine John..

Since you have joined the fray, what would you estimate the total Fox community to number?

I'll be generous and multiply my number by 3 to 945. That is still only several hundred. Intrestingly enough, you did not mention CIS, which I find interesting. Do you think it is several thousand?

John, I am talking about folks that take more than a passing interest in what is going on. I am talking about folks that really do what it takes to drive a community. FWIW,I know what portal fox is. Also, when you mention the Wiki and some other places, don't make the mistake of double-counting.

If my number is "patently ridiculous", prove me wrong. And FWIW, I don't count folks that log in once a month. To be a member of a community, you need to make *some* contribution.

Maybe my estimate is too low (although, I don't think it is). I think your estimate may be too high. Of course, you have not made an estimate. And before you start chucking numbers out there, you may want to see if you are allowed to do so...

I guess the first thing you have to define is the word community. Is it anybody who has bought the product, has the product? I don't think this is the case.

In the end, it doesn't really matter, does it?

>First off, you don't define what active is insofar as UT participants. Fine. Whatever. Most people use the UT to ask questions; it's only a small minority of us who hang out here socially. So if people only post a question or a comment here once or twice a month, they are not part of the community?

>Secondly, you are ignoring active participants on the Wiki, at PortalFox (hell, you probably don't even know what PortalFox is), on the comp.database newsgroups, on the microsoft.public newsgroups, on the numerous foreign Fox websites, on the esp (Spanish) newsgroups, on the deu (German) newsgroups......need I go on?

>>I contend that the UT, which is the focal point of the Fox community, numbers only a few hundred active participants. All the while, there is talk of the Fox community. I don't think it is as big as some would claim it to be. Seems to me that the most die heard people would be sure to take the survey. That number amounted to 315, not that it really matters...
