I am not sure. I could be wrong about using SQL Server 7.0 to manage MSDE 2000. I kind of have it the other way around... I have SQL Server 7 and SQL Server 2000 installed on the same machine, and SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition installed on another.

I do know this... SQL Server 7.0 does not support multiple instance on the same machine, so if you are going to install both SQL Server 7 Developer Edition and MSDE 2000 on the same machine, you will have to uninstall MSDE 2000, install SQL Server 7.0 Developer Edition, then reinstall MSDE 2000. In other words, version 7.0 has to be the first version.

Check the readme.txt file to be sure, but I think that is what I read.
