Many possibilities and alternatives Stephen. The message is clear: since VFP is not futuristic as it is not a .Net language, might as well do something today rather than nothing. And I think that's the very message of that "Opportunity Cost" being discussed here by JVP and Steve. I am a strong believer in the saying that "What you do today determines what you will be tomorrow..."
>There's a 3rd road too. It's called open source. Why not just use Python? It's OOP, easy to learn, fast, stable and very powerful. Can connect to any database and has a rich toolset for developing GUI's. It's even part of .NET. Of course it's not a database lang - meaning that it doesn't have a built-in database like Fox. That's the HUGE advantage that Fox has anything else (IMHO).
