I think this is true. One of the best analogies I've come up with is the notion of copying a copy of a copy of a copy. They degrade over time and at some point the "picture" needs refreshing. Things, by nature, deteriorate
unless you take active measures against the deterioration. Societies, relationships, job skills, language, etc, etc, etc...
