Hello all.
Yesterday our IT department met and they dropped a bomb shell on us VFP programmers. The upper-management, in all their wisdom, decided to start our migration to VB6 and MAYBE to next version DOT-NET - whenever it comes out.
They didn't give any reasons or how they came to this decision. Obviously, the VB programmers were delighted, because they now feel that, finally, all the big applications will be written/rewritten in VB6.
This doesn't really affect me and a hand-full of other VFPers here because we work with VB6 about 25% of the time. But, we are welling to bet or next paycheck that for what we do, VFP is far superior. However, the upper management didn't ask us for our opinions on this matter when they made their decision.
I get a feeling they made their decision based on VB-DOT-NET. Actually, they probably don't even know what DOT-NET is. It just seems to be the IT buzz word of the year. I mean, what do they see when they open IT mag? They see DOT NET this and DOT NET that. Where is all the shout out for VFP7? I don't remember the last time I open a IT trade mag. and read a good significant article about VFP.
Anyway. I thought I'd share this with all the UTers.
