Sounds like you need to go political. Find the decision maker and see if you can convince them (from their pov) that making this decision might make them look bad politically.

Hate to say it but a lot of these kinds of decisions are what drives the sales. Here's a case where the hype is driving the desire to look good corporately. IMO the only way you get a fair shake is to get that individual to see there is a more reasonable and career-safe path.
