Ok.. It's pretty simple actually.

Theist - Believer in the notion of god
aTheist - Believer in the notion of God - NOT

Gnostic - Believer in knowledge
aGnostic - Believer in knowledge - NOT

Muse - Thinker/Thinking
aMuse - Thinker/Thinking - NOT

IOW, the 'a' modifier in Greek creates the concept of the negative of the original. In the case of "Amusement" it essentially means "Not Thinking", which is exactly what it is in most cases.

One doesn't go to a movie (typically) to think. One goes to turn off the thinking and escape. Perfectly ok IMO as long as it doesn't take over your life I know folks where this has happened and they just can't face life.
