For schools, govs, charities, non-profits, etc.. "Open License 6" applies;
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/programs/open/default.aspBut, over all:
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/"The new versions of our volume licensing programs, including Open License, Select License, and Enterprise Agreement, started on October 1, 2001. In response to customer requests, we have extended the launch period for these new programs to July 31, 2002:
Open License 6.0
Select License 6.0
Enterprise Agreement 6.0
Enterprise Subscription Agreement 6.0"
People complained last fall so the 'grace' period to license-up was extended to 7/31/ of this year. Now the complaints are approaching the whine of of a jet engine.

>>However, it seems that in "License 6" Microsoft is adding a 'tax' for computers at a company that don't have WinXX on them. So, if you have a network of 25,000 computers and half of them run WinXX and the rest Linux, the new MS license will require a fee for each of the Linux computers. THe stick is a threat of an audit if they don't comply with the new Licensing agreement, which locks them into two or more years of annual license upgrades. THis is really ticking people off.

>>The same strong arm tactics are being used on businesses too. It is exactly like a protection racket: "Buy the new license and you can avoid a lot of hurt (the BSD)".
