I am encountering an extremely strange problem. After executing a small (3 row) Sqlexec query on a remote MySql database, the query is completed immediately, but the disk then thrashed for up to two minutes before continuing to the next line of code.

What I have ruled out:
1. Slow connections - I can see the temporary cursor being created immediately in the VFP temp path
2. Virus checker - I can do a local query, see the cursor created, but no disk thrash
3. Remote Database/Syntax: I have the same command running on many other PCs querying the same database
4. ODBC - I have tested various ODBC versions
5. Low disk space/memory - the PC is new and has plenty of spare resources

Problem Environment: Windows XP with full VFP5 installed, and the SqlExec tested with both VFP5 and VFP6 runtime files.

I suspect the problem is something to do with VFP5 being installed, but I can't see any odd settings. Any ideas?
