We recently wrote an application for tracking and paying levies and garnishments for banks which has no menu. We used a mixture of labeled buttons and graphical ones to speed the user along.

The graphical buttons help with the real estate problem, making the form less crowded.

Our customers have really liked the interface and have told us it is less confusing than other systems they have seen.
