The thing that drove me from Win95 was its total lack of stability. What kept me away from susbsequent releases was the propriatary data formats and Microsoft's willingness to destroy competitors by building traps into their OS.
Right now, OpenOffice is making BIG waves. If Microsoft stays true to their form they will, in one of their coming 'patches' build in a block into DOC, Excel and Presentation files that prevents them from being recognized/imported by current releases of OpenOffice. If they already haven't done it.
