Just a side note:

Twenty months ago I was asked to try a Linux replacement for a Win98+Wildcat BBS system because IT couldn't keep the combo up reliably. They got tired of coming in on weekends to reboot a crashed Win98 or stuck Wildcat.

So, I purcashed a $39 copy of SuSE 6.4 from Best Buy and installed it on an old P75 with two 1Gb HDs and 64MB of RAM.
I wrote three scripts, each about a page long, to replace Wildcat and present a secure login to users dialing in.

It was on that box that I first installed ReiserFS. One HD was for root. The second HD held /home.
When the IT folks and the dept heads came by to take a look I was walking them through the system when the /home HD suddently died. I was logged in as root at the time, and since /root is on the / partition I didn't get cut off. ReiserFS gracefully tried to reboot the second HD a couple of times, then disconnected it. Folks standing around watching were stunned. So, since I had nothing to loose, I said "Watch this!" and pulled the power cord out of the wall.
SuSE came right back up and after ReiserFS did a little magic I was presented with a KDE 1 login screen and logged in as root. That dropped their jaw. The boss told the IT guys to get me some decent hardware and install the system. During the past 20 months ReiserFS has been needed because the box and never gone down. In fact, I don't believe that anything on KDE 1.x has crashed either.

We'll probably be a Win2K shop for a long time, and because so many of our apps are VFP exe's, it will take a while to convert them to Oracle and/or PosgreSQL using browsers to access the data. But, evaluations are on going, and I think it is just a matter of time before the novell servers are replaced.
