You might want to look at SMTP/POP3 Email Engine for Visual FoxPro from www.marshallsoft.com. It is not an active x control but has some pretty good sample programs for sending and receiveing email with and without attachments (not automating any email client software). Pretty reasonable developer license IMO. I only use it for sending email but I have tried the receive email sample and it worked with no problems. They have a shareware download to try before you buy.
