There is a known bug in the ASP.NET calendar control that does not properly catch the click event when the user clicks on the a date in the calendar. The click event usually fires correctly when the user clicks twice. See if that works for you.

Have you tried putting a breakpoint in the DoItemEdit method? One commonality between both examples is they both have a datagrid. See if the code execution stops at the beginning of the method and then trace it through.
