Nepophyte or not.....well said.

>Please forgive a neophite's incursion into this dialogue. John, the reason I am taking my programming baby steps with Visual FoxPro is because I find that it is a very interesting piece of software which gives me everything I would need (i.e. the language and the data engine) to produce a complete program, natively and completely for the desktop. I know, I can do much more, but I have to wait until I learn more... :).

>The Universal Thread has, until now, proven to be a total and marvelous resource for ideas, sample code, articles, etc. that I don't want to be without, but the kind of discussions that are prompted here, wherein your participation appears to be the common element, is beginning to turn me off the use of this subscription. I wish "you-all" would put on the brakes, or continue discussing issues sanely, objectively and, dare I say this... professionally. Maybe I'm too old, but the characterizations that go back and forth, the nasty innuendos that appear constantly between the lines of discussion, and the general lack of concern for those of us that find this behavior reprehensive, is beginning to turn me off. And well it might.

>The point I'm trying to make is that some "neophite" programmers do not use the particular language or RDBMS software motivated by need. In my case, as it is with many others, including a couple of my children, is that we are enthused by the "magic" of the technology and want to be an actor rather than a spectator in this wonderful "paradigmatic" world that affects almost every aspect of the life in this world we live in. Need is the least of our motivations.

>Burned off? Well figuratively speaking that's what is in fact happening. So please, stop the nonsensical diatribes and begin anew to focus on the constructive aspects of what, I'm sure, we are all about.

>Bless you.

>>Also, your claim about "burning off" newbies is a bit extreme. If people need to use the product, they will use the product regardless of what I or anybody else says. And, if this place answers their question ,they will continue to come up here regardless of what I say.
>>
>>Now, get the over-senstive chip off your shoulder, grow up, move on, and most of all, stop taking comments about the product so personally...

>>>I guess I'm trying to learn from history, you can't appease a dictator you have to respond firmly.
