Java is a great language. Except I made the jump too soon. This was pre-Swing, pre 1.1 . Heck, we couldn't even print properly.
As we are not a dotBomb company we have to make a profit and we had to abandon Java to achieve that at that time.
For this reason I advise people to think very seriously about leaping across to dotNet at this time. Review/learn it by all means, but let some other poor sucker go first to iron out the bugs and identify the problems.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
