>I've got some data I am placing into an excel sheet using automation. There are three tables totaling close to 500 fields and 50,000 records. It appears that it's going to take about 24 hours to write the data to excel. Is that right or am I doing something wrong?

Jim,
Normal time is around 2.4 secs < g >. Kidding of course not that much but no more than a few mins at worst either. 500 fields ! Excel wouldn't be able to get it as a flat sheet. So you should be parsing in a way. Think of pivoting. If that's really what you want then the duration actually might drop to few secs.

My first rule of thumb :
Leave VBA as least as possible.
