Does the data value inserted appear after you exit from the app and then reenter it? If so, you may be seeing an artifact of buffering - something I've noted when both a view and the underlying table are buffered, and only the view is explicitly TABLEUPDATE()-ed when the INSERT occurs, either as a result of issuing a TABLEUPDATE() or an implicit TABLEUPDATE() that occurs as a result of moving the record pointer in a record-level buffered table or view.

If you are using buffering, try issuing a TABLEUPDATE() after the INSERT to ensure that the buffer is committed to the table. If you're using a view and already TABLEUPDATE() the view, try additionally issuing a TABLEUPDATE() against the base table.
