I really like the “Powered by Microsoft Visual FoxPro” tag line. However, I personally don’t like the “cute little Fox” overlayed on the lightning bolt. Maybe a more aggressive looking Fox, ripping through volumes of data ... (just kidding). Since FPW 2.6, one of the more frequent negative comments that I heard concerned the Fox icon in the corner of each window until I finally hacked the FOXW2600.ESL and replaced the icon with my own. The objection wasn’t necessarily that it was written in FoxPro, although sometimes it was. Many times I was asked if the Fox icon could be changed to something that more appropriately represented the application. Someone else has mentioned that the lightning symbol represents danger or a hazard in some cultures. We certainly don’t want to convey that it is hazardous to use a “Powered by Microsoft Visual FoxPro” application. <s>

FWIW, I think that the “Powered by Microsoft Visual FoxPro” is a VERY good idea and I thank the originator of the suggestion. It might actually do some positive PR work, letting more people know that VFP is not dead (as some prophets of doom would have everyone believe), but that VFP is a living, powerful, versatile, feature rich and stable development tool for many more types of applications than just some niche markets, even in the dotNET age.

It looks like Ken Levy has taken notice and is working on an official Microsoft logo. I think that an official Microsoft logo with the tag line would be the one that I would use (depending on whether, IMO, it favorably represents VFP and my applications of course). I will probably, at least, use the tag line in the About … and splash screens in my applications, whether I use an official, unofficial, or no logo at all.

There are many talented people here who may want to submit alternate designs. Why not solicite contributions, publish them here and allow the community to review the designs and vote?
Or perhaps Ken Levy would like to see some alternate designs and if one were selected as the official MS logo perhaps a free upgrade to Toledo to the artist.

Just a thought.
