Keep in mind that some broadband services NOW have 1-800 numbers you can call when traveling for access (they are trying to stay competitive). For instance, my broadband provider (TWC) has a 1-800 number for access that has no extra charge. They know it will ONLY be used when their customers travel, because no one would intentionally connect at a slower speed unless they had to! I'd check into it before I paid anything for additional service if you are definitely getting broadband anyway soon (as you said).
