Yes, You can easily recompile Your project to 6 if You did not
use some of the new features. However I would suggest not to do that.
As Ed pointed out one of Your problems is the lack of runtimes. This
can be easily solved by creating a proper setup with InstallShieldExpress
that comes with VFP7 and is on the same CD.
You will have the same problems with VFP6 if these runtimes are not
on the client's machine as well.
VFP7 itself is very stable as I realized after a short time. Most
of the problems I had in the beginning came from my own coding.
VFP6 seemed to be more *generous* concerning some coding errors. But
what causes a GPF in 7, might cause a memory-leak in 6 witch I find more
dangerous.
