You didn't include a CurrentControl setting in the code you posted, so if you really added the checkbox with this code, it wouldn't be the current control. (Maybe you have 2 checkboxes and don't realize it!)

IAC, since you mentioned the combo that populates the grid, I'm wondering if it shows the checkbox when you don't have the combo, and just let whatever the RecordSource is decide what to show?
