Thanks for your reply.

I got another complaint today. Now listen to this. My clients (Vice Principals in High Schools) have been told they should not turn off their computers at night because the Board staff may want to do some polling stuff in the middle of the night. This guy's computer has been "always on" since September.

In the old days of Win95/98, they would turn off their computers at night and Scandisk was in their StartUp folder so the residual memory was getting cleared each day plus lost clusters were getting fixed.

Now this particular application runs on the local Drive C:, there is no network involved once the source files are downloaded. So I am not leaning on their servers.

Anyway, I had the VP Email me his backup files to me (they are in .SQZ format) and when I opened them up, I found one file that should have 500 records balooned to 40,000 records with 39,000 records as blank rows. I cleared out the blanks and sent them back and now he is fine.

But I found that the Board is putting everything onto the Servers now e.g. if you type a letter, it is saved on a Server directory. So the local PC is really a place where software is installed but storage is done elsewhere. This thinking has lead them to provide no training on CHKDSK or Defrag or even turning off the machine once in a while.

Anyway, Ed I learned a bit more about the problem today. I agree with you that File Size is not the issue. I got 2 VP's to run Defrag today and I am also encouraging them to turn off their computers from time to time. So we will see where this takes us.

Thanks again for your reply.
