I added a rectangle to my report and set its background color to read unsing VFP 7 report writer toolbars.

After that converted this report to a PDF file and used Acrobat 5 reader
to view it.
Red rectangle shows in screen as expected.
I'm using Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600 shipped with Windows 98 SE

So I cannot reproduce your problem.
Can you give exact steps how to reproduce this problem.
