i wanted the buttons on my form to be a different color based on what a user selected.

i tried this: creating a button that had a picture. this didnt work since the caption moved. then i tried the picture with a transparent label on the forground - this is fine, but the BMP picture file could not change colors... so i tried creating a new picture each time - but i am thinking that to create a button color picture for each button that gets a different color seems a bit overkill... so i tried to store it in a memo field and as the tooltip said i tried to point the button.picture at the field - but it doesnt work.

so i went to activex. loaded up one of those, it changes colors. but it doesnt move as the other ones do, or allow underlines shortcuts, or tab correctly, or allow some other thingies, so i put it in a container. this now allows it to move and on the form i could use the keydown thingy to fake a bunch of different shortcuts and escapes. but now that its in a container - and i made this a class, the thing wont accept changes to its Caption. which can be done a run time - but then you cant see what you are doing in the designer... also you cant just SetALL like the buttons. arg!

so any thoughts on the 10 or so roadblocks i have come up on ?
