Hi,

I have upgraded my web server to the Linux 7.3 operating system. During the install I selected install everything. After installing Linux, I restored my web site from a samba backup and set permissions. Everything works fine locally. However, When anyone tries to access my site from outside the local network, my system is refusing the connection.

It seem that Linux 7.3 requires special SSL encrytion in order to make a connection. I removed the Cat5 running between the web server and the router, and connect the web server directly to the cable modem. I was able to bring up the web page from a remote location by entering https://www.smvfp.com. It seem the s on the end of http is necessary to prevent a connection refused condition when accessing my web site.

I use the router to forward anything over port 80 to my web server. However, the Linksys router strips the s from the http IP address when forwarding, thus anyone access my site with https://www.smvfp.com will not be able to make the connection when coming in through the router.

There are a ton of configuration code in the httpd.conf file regarding SSL settings. The SSL setting make up about 1/3 of the httpd.conf file. I commented out all setting having anything to do with SSL, but I still receive a connection refused when accessing my web site from outside the local network, because I am unable to pass the https through the router.

I am considering connecting the cable modem directly to the web server to bypass the router. This would allow anyone outside the local network to access the web server using a https in the ULR. I would also configure the linux firewall to provide the security previously provided by the router. Also, I would purchase another network card and configure it with the local IP and NetBios setting and connect it into the local network.

Before proceeding with the above, I thought I would check to see if anyone knows how to disable SSL in RedHat 7.3, so that anyone from outside the local network could access my web site with the normal http, as opposed to the https. I have taken a look at uninstalling openSSL, but there are to many dependency. It seem everything included perl, postgres, python, etc is hook into it in some way or another.
