Hi Jerry,

The report that my system seemed to be working again was incorrect. I could click on the link in the thread and it worked fine, because I was already in the loacl network. However, if I went through netzero with their remotely assigned address, I could not access my site when I clicked on the link. Also, I had my wife, who is working a Hendricks Hospital try, and she was unable to bring my site up.

My linux system is real simple. It as two hard drive of 60 and 40 gig connected to a paradise IDE ultra DMA 100/133 Mz controller using IRQ 14 so ide2 60gig and ide3 40 gig are both assigned IRQ 14. Also, I have a samsung 52X CD pluged into the regular motherboard ide so ide1 for the CDROM is assigned IRQ 15. Also I have two com ports on the motherboard assigned IRQ 3 and IRQ 4. The paradise IDE controller is wanting IRQ 10 as near as I can tell from the dmesg command. It may be creating a problem. Dmesg is telling me something about IDE controller on PCI bus found IRQ 10, have IRQ 14, want IRQ 10, chipset revision 2 not 100% native mode: will proble IRQS later. My Linksys NIC is being found as follows: Linux Tulip dirver PCI: Found IRA 5 for device NIC IRQ routing confilict for NIC, have IRQ 10, want IRQ 5 eth0: ADMtek Comet rev 17 at xxx xxx, IRQ 10. cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

This is where dmesg ends

I have a 1.44 floppy that is found but does not seem to be assigned an IRQ. Also, I have an AGP 3Dforce B-16 meg nVIDIA video card which does not need an IRQ, and I think I have the IRQ for the AGP disabled in the BIOS. Opps, Assign IRQ for VGA :Enabled but no IRQ is begin shown per dmesg for the video card. I just disable the assigning an IRQ to the video card and the video card works find. Some video card will not work without an IRQ, some video card will not work with an IRQ, and mine work either way.

My printer is a network shared HP Laserjet 5P. I have the printer disabled in Linux because I don't need it. If I need to access anything in Linux, I do it through samba. For example, I have the Linux Doc directory map per samba to my Windows network neighborhood. I created a folder in my window desktop to hold the linux Docs. Browsing with window explorer, I set links in the windows folder to access the linux postgres Docs. I click on the html icon and it bring the docs up in my IE. I can easily print anything on the linux samba from my windows notepad, word, editor or IE.

I have used linux as the network print server and it works great, but I have switched the print server to a window NT 4.0 server.

The problem with using two NIC at the same time is more likely an issue of my not knowing how to configure the cards in linux. What I would like to do is have one card connected to the local network. The other card would be assigned the WAN static IP address and would receive/deliver email and allow the linux computer to be a web server. It would also provide a gateway to the local network so everyone in the local network would be able to access the internet through the linux NIC gateway. I would also want the linux router to log all income and outgoing traffic by IP to a file. I would need to know how to set linux up as the network router, and how to set linux up as the primary firewall. Although I have some experience here, it is not yet near enough. I do know form what I've read that Linux make an outstanding router, and is used in many older computer specifically for that purpose. looks like I will need to read some HOWTOs and see if I can figure out how to do this.

Thank,
